Accounting and Financial Management

Students on this course focus on knowledge and skills that can be applied within organisations rather than on how financial markets behave. This course is designed to develop existing knowledge and understanding of financial management and build on current research and analytical skills. It is an ideal course for those who have recently completed a 1st degree in accounting, or business administration, or those who have a related degree and substantial business experience.

Entry requirements

Applicants need a good Honours degree in either accounting and finance (minimum 2.2), or business/related subject (minimum 2.1) with a significant accounting and finance content (normally at least 25% of the degree) from a recognised higher education institution, equivalent, from a recognised overseas institution or to have successfully completed all of the fundamental papers of the ACCA syllabus or the certificate and managerial levels of the CIMA syllabus and have at least 2 years' relevant work experience. (If you have passed any of the ACCA professional level or CIMA strategic level papers you may be eligible for exemption from 1 or more of the MSc modules). If English is not your 1st language, you are required to meet the UK Border Agency and universities minimum English language requirements, such as the International English Language Test (IELTS) 6.5 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in all components.

Course modules

Postgraduate Certificate core modules: Fundamentals of financial management; financial context and contemporary issues; corporate strategy; corporate financial strategy; performance measurement and management; corporate financial reporting; research methods. Postgraduate Diploma is made up of other core modules and optional modules. Masters: Dissertation.

Assessment methods

Assessments is a mix of assignments, supervised mini-projects, role playing, presentations and examinations.
