Advanced Legal Practice

Whether you are intending to practice in the City, in a commercial firm, in a small high-street practice or in a niche area of law, our LLM in Advanced Legal Practice will give you the broad and rigorous foundation you need. The course includes the interim award of the PG Diploma in Legal Practice (LPC), which is the programme of vocational training required by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) for students wishing to qualify as solicitors. There are different options to complete your LLM in Advanced Legal Practice, which allow you to focus on your continuing professional development as a reflective practitioner, with responsibility for your own development and learning. This reflects the SRA's new Continuing Professional Development regime.

Entry requirements

Applicants need: a qualifying law degree (second class lower division or above) or a pass in the Graduate Diploma in Law. If English is not your first language you will also need to demonstrate your English Language proficiency. For example, you should have IELTS 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.5 in all components although it is preferable that you have an overall 7.5 and at least 7 in all components.

Assessment methods

The content and methods of assessment for all Legal Practice Courses are largely determined by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. All but one of our written examinations are open book. There are also a number of assessed written and oral skills exercises. These are held at different points during the course. You will also benefit from practice assessments in core skills, which will be sat in assessment conditions and marked by your tutors.
