The course is vocational and practice-oriented, geared to people working (or aspiring to work) in libraries, archives, museums and other workplaces, such as business, government, legal, financial, media and publishing organisations, and other information and knowledge managers seeking a professional qualification. Since the advent of the web, information has rapidly grown in volume and has become more accessible, especially in digital form. The course is taught by a combination of the department�s full time staff and external experts from library services and related domains. The significant contribution of external experts in to the teaching of this course helps keep it topical and oriented towards practice.
Honours degree or equivalent, with 2 years' work experience in a library. Non-graduates with substantial relevant work or other experience also considered. Students whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
Modules include: Insight into information environments; user needs and information literacy; information organisation and access; collection management; knowledge management; personal and organisational management.
Assessment in most modules is by a combination of written coursework and presentations or written exams. The dissertation is assessed by the supervisor and a 2nd marker. A work-based project may be available as a substitute for the dissertation.
