Accounting and Business Management

This programme appeals to graduates with a business-related degree who want to develop their understanding of accounting and management in a business context and develop skills that enhance their employability; the syllabus emphasises the value of developing knowledge and skills progressively from the core modules to the elective modules; it supports personal learning and development through managed choice and encourages personal initiative, enthusiasm and positive study habits.

Entry requirements

A 2.1 UK Honours degree or an equivalent internationally recognised qualification in management, business studies or a cognate discipline (with a large component of management related subjects in their degree) and evidence of numeracy skills; applicants from non-business/management disciplines (and without any business/management element) will be eligible if they have a 1st Class Honours degree or the overseas equivalent; applicants with a lower 2nd Class degree in a management, business studies or cognate discipline may be considered, providing they can show evidence of significant relevant work experience (minimum 2 years); applicants with non-degree qualifications will be also considered who have relevant work experience (minimum 5 years) and will be assessed on an interview basis; applicants may be required to attend an interview; applicants whose 1st language is not English require: ILETS 6.5 (with a minimum of 6 in all areas); TOEFL paper-based test 580 (with a minimum of 4.5 in the test of written English); TOEFL internet-based test 92 (with a minimum of 20 in reading, listening, speaking and writing); Pearson 58 (with a minimum of 51 in all subscores); or BrunELT 65 per cent (with a minimum of 60 per cent in all areas).

Course modules

Modules include: Financial accounting; financial reporting; management accounting; current issues in accounting; international management; understanding business and management research; dissertation. Optional modules: entrepreneurship; international business strategy; global diversity management; international business ethics and corporate governance; strategic management.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include examinations, coursework and the dissertation.
