Secondary Education (Science with Biology)
The course equips students with the skills of subject specialist teaching. It allows students to gain an understanding of teachers professional knowledge including the application of information and communications technology. The course leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), subject to satisfactory performance in skills tests.
An undergraduate degree related to the field in which you intend to teach. Normally this should be a 2nd class Honours classification or above. Maths and English grade C or equivalent at GCSE level. Modules within your pre professional degree course should provide a foundation of preparatory knowledge for the subject you are applying to teach. Students whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 7.0 or equivalent (with a minimum 6.0 in each component).
The PGCE course carries 60 Master�s Level credits and requires students to successfully complete 3 formally assessed pieces of academic work during the year: A 1500 word written assignment related to general professional issues; a poster presentation proposing a small scale research project based in school; an oral powerpoint presentation of the completed small scale research project.
