International Financial Regulation and Corporate Law

The course is designed for graduates seeking to gain a solid foundation into the growing discipline of financial regulations and corporate law in the international context. The programme focusses on the conceptual and theoretical aspects of substantive law and regulation in the field; the procedural mechanisms for the application of law; the challenges faced with the evolution of principles, rules and procedures; and the wider impact that regulations have on the wider society. Beyond the conceptual and theoretical focus, the course also covers the practical aspects of financial regulation in the domestic and international context.

Entry requirements

A UK 1st or 2nd Cass Honours degree or equivalent internationally recognised qualification in law; other related disciplines and qualifications will be considered and in such cases assessed on an individual basis by the postgraduate director and an interview may be required; applicants whose 1st language is not English require: IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 6 in all areas); TOEFL paper-based test 580 (with a minimum of 4.5 in the test of written English); TOEFL internet-based test 92 (with a minimum of 20 in reading, 20 in listening, 20 in speaking and 20 in writing); Pearson 58 (with a minimum of 51 in all subscores); or BrunELT 65 per cent (with a minimum of 60 per cent in all areas).

Course modules

Modules include: Theory of international financial regulation; corporate law 1; corporate law 2; corporate governance and corporate social responsibility; practice of international financial regulation; european union competition law; corporate insolvency law; principles of international commercial arbitration; international trade law; world trade organisation law; privacy and data protection; islamic financial laws and islamic banking regulations; international commercial litigation; practice of international commercial arbitration; dissertation.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by coursework, seen examinations and a dissertation (15,000 words) to oral presentations and assessment by contribution in seminars.
