Public Health and Health Promotion MSc

The overall aim of the MSc in Public Health and Health Promotion is for students to gain advanced skills, principles and knowledge in public health and health promotion whilst also developing a critical and multidisciplinary approach to the complexities of public health and health promotion challenges and possibilities. The programme reflects the multidisciplinary nature of public health and health promotion . You will develop your knowledge in public health and health promotion as well as build your research skills.The programme has an active learning and research-led approach.

Entry requirements

A UK 1st or 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent internationally recognised qualification in a relevant field such as health promotion, public health, allied health, health related studies, social sciences, and biosciences, sport science and environmental health. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require: IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 6 in all areas); TOEFL paper-based test 580 (with a minimum of 4.5 in the test of written English); TOEFL internet-based test 92 (with a minimum of 20 in reading, listening, speaking and writing); Pearson 58 (with a minimum of 51 in all areas); or BruneELT 65 per cent (with a minimum of 60 per cent in all areas).

Course modules

Modules include: global public health; health promotion; health and society; evidence and communication; health policy, politics and social justice; implementing change in public health and health promotion; research in practice; approaches to research; dissertation.

Assessment methods

A variety of assessment modes are employed, such as: case studies; essays; presentations; written examinations; a 15,000-18,000 word research dissertation. Assessment techniques match the intended learning outcomes. At the start of the programme the students are provided with the assessment schedule including assessment and feedback dates.
