Occupational Therapy (post-registration)

This programme encourages a theoretical underpinning of occupation, occupational therapy and research; it broadens and deepens students' knowledge and understanding of the value of occupational therapy in today's changing world; each module's content is embedded in practice and overall the programme aims to develop students' skills in analysing evidence, implementing and evaluating occupational therapy research.

Entry requirements

A UK 1st or 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent internationally recognised qualification in occupational therapy (WFOT approved). Applicants who hold an Occupational Therapy Diploma with a GPA 3.0/4 (or above) from Nanyang Polytechnic and have 1 year's full-time post qualification relevant work experience will be considered on an individual basis and applicants will be required to attend an interview; applicants whose 1st language is not English require: ILETS 7 (with a minimum of 6.5 in all areas); TOEFL paper-based test 600 (with a minimum of 5 in the test of written English); TOEFL internet-based test 100 (with a minimum of 20 in reading, listening, speaking and writing); Pearson 64 (with a minimum of 58 in all subscores); or BrunELT 70 per cent (with a minimum of 65 per cent in all areas).

Course modules

Modules include: occupational science; evidence-based occupational therapy; the art of professional practice; research design; approaches to research; dissertation. Optional modules: occupational therapy for children, young people and their families; occupational therapy for mental health; functional neuroscience for rehabilitation; communicating and utilising evidence in practice; occupational therapy for active ageing; functional assessment of challenging behaviours across the lifespan; specialist practice in occupational therapy; cognitive and behavioural issues in neurorehabilitation.

Assessment methods

A variety of assessments allow students to become proficient in evaluating and questioning their chosen area of practice. Active and adult learning principles are used throughout the course.
