Building Services Engineering Management
The programme is aimed at professional engineers aspiring to increased management responsibility in the building services sector or who have reached a stage in their careers when they are carrying increasing management responsibility, perhaps in a senior role; alternatively, the programme is of particular relevance to engineers who want to develop technical understanding and expertise across the multi-disciplines of building services engineering.
A UK 1st or 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent internationally recognised qualification in an engineering, appropriate science or technology discipline; other qualifications and relevant experience will be assessed on an individual basis; students whose 1st language is not English require: IELTS 6 (with a minimum of 5.5 in all areas); TOEFL paper-based test 550 (with a minimum of 4 in the test of written English); TOEFL internet-based test 79 (with a minimum of 18 in reading, 17 in listening, 20 in speaking and 17 in writing); Pearson 51 (with a minimum of 51 in all subscores); or BrunELT 60 per cent (with a minimum of 55 per cent in all areas).
Modules include: Building heat transfer and air conditioning; electrical services and lighting design; acoustics, fire, drainage and lifts; energy conversion technologies; engineering finance and accounting; management of people in engineering activities; organisation of engineering business; management of facilities and engineering contracts; dissertation.
Assessment is by examinations, written assignments, and the dissertation.
