Health Rehabilitation and Exercise

The course covers exercise rehabilitation to work in obesity and exercise prescription programmes as well as in cardiac rehabilitation programmes. Study combines theoretical and practical experiences from practitioners and academics across multi-disciplinary areas such as medicine, sport science and psychology. The course offers a flexible approach to learning and provides independent and self directed learning and reflective practice in the field of exercise rehabilitation; students develop professional skills specific to the field of exercise rehabilitation; applicants identify and evaluate practical applications in the field of exercise rehabilitation and develop research skills to support the continued development of exercise rehabilitation as a discipline.

Entry requirements

Applicants to this programme are expected to hold a good undergraduate degree, at 2.1 honours level or above, in sports and exercise science or any subject related to sports studies, health or fitness. Applicants with non-standard qualifications, or with no formal qualifications but with suitable work experience are encouraged to apply. Applicants should also have at least 1 year of recent experience in the field of health and fitness. Experience in certain areas and/or professional qualifications, such as Level 2 Gym Instructor and Level 3 Personal Training, would be an advantage.

Course modules

Modules include: fitness and physical exercise science; contemporary study of non acute health conditions; sociocultural aspects of the body, health and exercise; clinical exercise physiology; research methods and dissertation.
