Art and Design Practice (Ceramics)
Students have an opportunity for interdisciplinary study under the art or design routes, whilst confirming their research focus and final trajectory. The course provides both intellectual and practical training for students who want to follow and develop their own personal programme of research through the medium of clay and ceramics. Students are encouraged to test the boundaries of the material and their ideas through practical and theoretical enquiry. A broad base of both technical and practical facilities for ceramic processes, alongside extensive workshop that specialise in wood, metal and printed image, enable students to expand and enhance their material discipline through interdisciplinary exchange. The programme concludes with a public exhibition of work.
Applicants require a 2.1 Honours degree in a related field; applicants without a degree but with experience can be considered on an individual basis; all applicants are interviewed with a portfolio of previous work; in their application students need to include a short research project proposal; for international students, these interviews may be held over Skype or telephone upon submission of the student's portfolio; English language requirements for international applicants are IELTS 6.5.
Modules include: personal project 1; material creativity; art and design research methods; personal project 2; thesis; personal project 3.
