Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

The course provides an evidence based treatment approach as supported by current research and advocated by the national institute for clinical excellence (NICE) guidelines; students study the treatment of a wide range of mental health problems including depression, anxiety, phobias and obsessive compulsive disorder.

Entry requirements

Relevant degree or equivalent from an allied field; applicants must also have work experience, typically of at least 2 years duration, working with patients in a mental health setting; it is a pre-requisite of the course that applicants have access to a clinical population to enable them to implement their cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) training into practice.

Course modules

Modules include: cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) theory and practice; CBT practitioner skills; professional and ethical issues; supervised practice; CBT research methods; CBT advanced theory and practice; CBT advanced skill; dissertation (MSc only).

Assessment methods

Dissertation.
