English (Literatures Victorian and Modern)

This course enables students to explore the subject in detail, covering areas such as crime fiction; war literature and classic children's literature.

Entry requirements

A 1st Class or 2nd Class Honours degree, in English or a relevant subject discipline. International students whose 1st language is not English include an IELTS overall score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.5 in reading and writing.

Course modules

Compulsory: Research and scholarship (20 credits) in term 1; dissertation (60 credits); plus at least 2 from: classic children�s literature (20 credits); Victorian crime fiction (20 credits); modern and contemporary children's literature (20 credits); literature of the Fin de Si�cle (20 credits); literature and war from 1914 to the present (20 credits); plus further options.

Assessment methods

Assessment is mainly by a range of written coursework including research essays and a 15,000-word dissertation. There are no exams.
