Computing

Research interests include a wide spectrum of computing applications; particular strengths are in software quality/software quality metrics, embedded computer systems, HCI, server-side systems and a developing interest in aspects of forensic computing and cyber crime forensics. Research degrees differ from taught degrees in that most of the students' time is devoted to the individual pursuit of a research project. The students work independently carrying out research, experimentation and data-gathering in their chosen field. However, each student's supervisors will provide close support and mentoring throughout.

Entry requirements

Good Honours degree in computing or computing science; experience of an object-oriented programming language; non-standard applicants are considered on their merit; overseas students whose native language is not English: IELTS 6.5.

Assessment methods

For an MPhil the students are required to demonstrate that they can conduct an original investigation, test ideas (those of their own and others) and understand the relationship between the topic investigated and the wider field of knowledge. For a PhD, in addition to the above, the student's thesis should also make an original contribution to knowledge or understanding in their field of study.
