Secondary Education (Geography, 11-18)
This programme prepares graduates for the demands of teaching the 11-18 age range in the secondary sector; upon completion, students are recommended for Qualified Teacher Status, enabling them to teach in schools; the course is organised in partnership with schools where they spend a total of 24 weeks teaching within the 36 week long programme.
2.2 Honours degree with a minimum content of 50 per cent in geography or a related subject; GCSEs (grade C or above) in English language and mathematics or equivalents acceptable to the University; a minimum of 10 days recent and relevant school experience on application. Applicants are also strongly encouraged to have passed skills tests in literacy and numeracy prior to an interview.
Modules include: Professional placement � module 1; professional studies � module 2; curriculum studies in geography � module 3; enhanced studies � module 4.
Assessment is through a combination of professional placements and course work.
