Secondary Education (Art and Design, 11-18)
The course is an innovative and intensive programme preparing graduates for the challenges and rewards of teaching art and design within the secondary sector in the artist/teacher model; students are recommended for Qualified Teacher Status, enabling them to teach in schools on completion of the programme; the course is organised in partnership with schools around Kent and Medway where students spend 24 out of the 36 weeks teaching in 2 different schools.
2.2 Honours degree with a minimum content of 50 per cent in art and design; GCSEs (grade C or above) in English language and mathematics or equivalents acceptable to the University; a minimum of 10 days recent and relevant state school experience on application. Applicants are also strongly encouraged to ahve passed skills tests in literacy and numeracy prior to an interview.
Modules include: Professional placement � module 1; professional studies � module 2; curriculum studies in art and design - module 3; enhanced studies � module 4.
Assessment is through a combination of professional placements and course work.
