Secondary Education (Design and Technology: Product Design, 11-18)
The course is an innovative and intensive programme preparing graduates for the demands of teaching the 11-18 age range in the Secondary sector; students are recommended for Qualified Teacher Status, enabling them to teach in schools on completion of the programme; the course is organised in partnership with schools around Kent and Medway where students spend 24 out of the 36 weeks teaching in 2 different schools.
2.2 Honours degree with a minimum content of 50 per cent in a subject related to design technology (this may include but is not restricted to product/industrial design, textiles, graphics, engineering, model making, jewellery, furniture, 3-dimensional art and design, architecture); experience in an education setting and/or employment or voluntary work relevant to the subject area, particularly where this work has enhanced knowledge, skills and understanding in an aspect of design technology; GCSEs (grade C or above) in English language and mathematics or equivalents acceptable to the university; a minimum of 10 days recent and relevant state school experience on application; applicants should reflect on this experience in the personal statement of the application. Applicants are also strongly encouraged to have passed skills tests in literacy and numeracy prior to an interview.
Modules include: Professional placement � module 1; professional studies � module 2; curriculum studies in DT - module 3; enhanced studies � module 4.
Assessment is through a combination of professional placements and course work.
