Middle Years (Modern Languages: Spanish, 7-14)
This programme enables student teachers to become confident, competent classroom practitioners; it is ideal for those who: have a strong interest in their specialist subject, but also like the idea of working with primary children; are concerned about smoothing the transition of pupils from primary to secondary education; are interested in working across this age group such as in innovative state models of schooling; continental or independent schools; want to train as a teacher, but do not want to specialise in a particular phase of education at this stage; the programme has been designed for all students to meet the standards for Qualified Teacher Status; the programme runs in partnership with local primary and secondary schools Students spend 120 days in school as part of this programme and 60 days at the University.
2.2 Honours degree in languages (applicants with a non-relevant subject degree who are able to demonstratable degree level language skills will also be considered); GCSEs (grade C or above) in English language, mathematics and science (before the PGCE course begins), or equivalents acceptable to the University; at least 10 days observation in a state primary and secondary school prior to submitting an application. Applicants are strongly encouraged to have passed skills tests in literacy and numeracy prior to an interview.
