Secondary Education (Leisure and Tourism, 14-19)
For 12 weeks students experience a mix of lectures, investigative seminars, tutorials, practical workshops and study visits; these prepare students for professional placement and help them to reflect on professional issues and their own development; during the 24 weeks on placement, students learn through a combination of focused observation, individual, group and whole class teaching, discussions with mentors, attendance at school/college training events, professional meetings and study visits.
2.2 Honours degree with a minimum of 50 per cent of the degree in a subject related to leisure and tourism or in some exceptional cases an unrelated degree if students have experience in the leisure and/or tourism sector, particularly where this work has enhanced knowledge, skills and understanding in the subject; GCSEs (grade C or above) in English language and mathematics or equivalents acceptable to the University; a minimum of 10 days recent and relevant state school and further education experience on application. Applicants are strongly encouraged to have passed skills tests in literacy and numeracy prior to an interview.
Modules include: professional placement; professional studies; curriculum studies in travel and tourism.
Assessment is through a combination of professional placements and course work.
