Secondary Education (Physics with Mathematics, 11-18)
The programme prepares graduates for the demands of teaching the 11-18 age range in the secondary sector; upon completion, students are awarded a PGCE and recommended for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), enabling them to teach in schools; the course is organised in partnership with schools where students spend a total of 24 weeks teaching within the 36 week long programme.
2.2 Honours degree with a minimum of 50 per cent of the degree in physics (or a subject related to this), and a good A-level in mathematics (or a related subject where mathematics is a major subject); experience in an education setting and/or employment or voluntary work relevant to the subject area, particularly where this work has enhanced applicants knowledge, skills and understanding in science; GCSEs (grade C or above) in English language and mathematics (or equivalents acceptable to the University); a minimum of 10 days recent and relevant state school experience on application. Applicants are strongly encouraged to have passed skills tests in literacy and numeracy prior to an interview.
Modules include: Professional placement � module 1; professional studies � module 2; curriculum studies in physics with maths � module 3; enhanced studies � module 4.
Assessment is through a combination of professional placements and course work.
