This course is designed for cardiology medical practitioners who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills in cardiology. The course consists of lectures, seminars and journal clubs, which will be delivered by the University's institute of medical sciences, based on the Medway campus. Single accommodation is available on the campus. Observation of clinical procedures and imaging modalities will take place at a major London teaching hospital during 3 separate periods of one week. The course is flexible, can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis and includes the option to exit with a postgraduate diploma (PgD) or postgraduate certificate (PgC). There is also the option to undertake single modules as stand-alone elements. The full-time course comprises 6 taught PgD modules (each module carries 20 M level credits) that are intended to be studied in the first 2 terms, followed by a 3 module dissertation (60 M level credits). Students are normally expected to complete the PgD aspects of the course in nine months followed by the research approaches and methods (RAM) module and the dissertation/project.

Entry requirements

In order to apply applicants must be a qualified medical practitioner with a minimum of one year post qualification clinical experience. We will check all international applications in terms of: a) equivalence of qualifications (by using NARIC) b) English language level IELTS score of 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in writing) or equivalent.

Course modules

Modules include: General cardiology; ischaemic heart disease; cardiovascular imaging; heart failure and the cardiomyopathies; valvular heart disease and the great vessels; dysrhythmias and syncope; research approaches and methods (RAM); research dissertation/project.

Assessment methods

Assessment is based on essays, examinations, dissertation.
