Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
This short course introduces students to the basic concepts and principles of GIS and explains how this growing technology can bring real value to their work place. The course is centered around the practical use of ESRI software (ArcGIS, Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst). The course also demonstrates how other technologies such as remote sensing (aerial photography/satellite data/LiDAR) and Global Positioning Systems (G.P.S.) can be successfully integrated with GIS to provide powerful tools within these applications. Additionally each student has the opportunity to complete an online ESRI certified �Virtual Campus� course to receive industry recognised accreditation,
A-level or an equivalent and have basic information communication technology skills; an interest in GIS and a need to obtain training in such areas is the main requirement; students are selected for the programme based on the information contained on the application form; some candidates may be interviewed.
