Performance Analysis

This programme is designed to meet the growing demand for performance analysis; the programme prepares skilled and experienced analysts with sound scientific principles on which to base their work; it offers students the opportunity to develop their understanding of the theory behind their analyses, to gain experience of elite performance and the coaching process and feedback to enable them to apply their knowledge and skills to a variety of contexts; this programme is unique in its combination of theoretical ideas, practical experience and exposure to the growing spectrum of commercial hardware and software; opportunities for work experience are also offered and contribute towards the degree; the course also provides students with a balance of academic and experiential (practical labs) studies, which are focused through ensuring a comprehensive analysis of the research process.

Entry requirements

Applicants should normally have one of the following: an Honours degree (2.1 or above) in a sport or leisure related area plus evidence of study within performance analysis. Candidates with exceptional and extensive work experience in sport, coaching or performance will also be considered.

Course modules

Modules include: research methods for sport studies; understanding the coaching environment; research issues in performance analysis; computerised match analysis; analysis of technique; dissertation project. One module from: independent study; modelling, profiling and statistics; theoretical and experimental sport biomechanics; work experience.

Assessment methods

The assessment is a rich mixture of practical evidence of absorbing the content, embracing presentations, edited video, experimental essays, reports, and critical reviews.
