Youth and Community Work
This professionally endorsed award is particularly suitable for graduates who have increasingly found themselves working in the field of youth and community work and who wish to gain a professional qualification. The programme requires students to undertake two separate supervised placements in the field of youth and community work. Students attend university on one evening a week where they undertake taught modules and tutorials. Students on this programme tend to develop into a highly supportive, friendly and analytical professional group. The course is currently endorsed by ETS (Wales) for youth work and is seeking endorsement for community development from Community Development Cymru.?
The course is comprised of both taught and placement components. Taught modules tend to be university based and involve lectures and small group discussions. Placement based modules relate to the students' fieldwork practice and the university-based tutorial process which emphasise reflective learning. Students will need to attend taught module sessions and tutorials on one evening a week. Modules run over a semester and are worth 15 credits at level 7. Students will be assessed on both their youth and community work-based practice and their academic assignments through a range of assessment types including essays, presentations, debates, group exercises, audio-visual work, portfolios, reflective writing, and viva voce.
