Bar Professional Training Course

The Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) is a mandatory professional qualification prior to a pupillage and becoming a barrister. Our BPTC will bridge the gap between your academic study of law and your practice as a pupil. It will also provide you with a solid foundation in knowledge and skills for your early years of tenancy. The course aims to foster a professional and ethical approach to practice as a barrister, whilst giving you an informed view of a barrister's working life. The BPTC programme is a skills based intensive full time 10 month course to prepare a prospective barrister for pupillage. Learning will mostly take place in small groups of 12 or 6 students and will focus on practical knowledge and written and oral skills. The Course focuses on the development of advocacy skills, by providing you with 2 hour classes in groups of 6 or less almost every week across all 3 terms. Students will be expected to develop practitioner skills and copies of practitioners' texts will be provided.
