Religious Studies (Asian Religions)
The study of Asian religions at Cardiff University provides a unique opportunity for students to acquire expertise in South Asian and/or Chinese religious literature and culture. The degree programme offers a firm grounding in the classical Indian language of Sanskrit for those interested in this option, and the opportunity to work with some of the leading scholars in the field.
2nd Class UK Honours degree, or equivalent, in religious studies or a relevant subject. Students whose 1st language is not English will be required to pass an IELTS test (minimum 6.5) or equivalent.
Modules include: Sanskrit language and literature; Jainism; aspects of Mahabharata; Hinduism; Pali literature; South Asian religion and performance; Buddhism; Chinese pilgrims' accounts of Indian Buddhism.
Assessment methods include written assignments and a 20000 word dissertation.
