Obstetric and Gynaecological Ultrasound
The primary aim of this programme is to enable practitioners to formalise and develop their understanding of the relevant ultrasound principles in obstetrics and gynaecology and related subjects, develop their evaluative, problem solving and critical thinking skills to enable them to apply this knowledge and deliver a high quality service to their patients. In addition, the course stimulates students to undertake research and evidence-based practice, which enhances clinical effectiveness. This is a modular programme. This course is delivered off-site with some lectures taking place. Students can submit work online, and undertake training in their own hospital. All learning material is available on Learning Central.The first block of teaching is in September and October, and the second block of teaching in February and end of year exams are in July.
Candidates should normally be health professionals who hold a relevant primary degree or diploma and intend to further their career in medical ultrasound. Applicants would normally be expected to have worked for at least 2 years full-time in their relevant profession or speciality after their pre-registration qualification. Students whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5 or equivalent (with a minimum 6.5 in each component).
Modules include: Foundation science; practice of obstetric ultrasound; practice of gynaecological ultrasound; team working and inter professional practice; legal aspects of care; management issues in ultrasound practice; advanced gynaecological ultrasound; advanced obstetric ultrasound; research, statistics and evidence based medicine.
Majority of students self-funded, some obtain awards from trusts and charities.
