Astronomy and Astrophysics
Research embraces a wide range of observational, theoretical and instrumental programmes, from mapping galaxy formation in the early universe to modelling the formation of stars and planets in nearby interstellar space and devising new ways of searching for gravitational waves; research projects are available in: the formation, structure and evolution of galaxies, clusters of galaxies at high redshift, nearby galaxy populations, the formation of stars and planets, interstellar dust and the origin of the elements, and general relativity and gravitational waves.
Upper 2nd class Honours degree in physics, astrophysics, mathematics, electronics or a related subject, depending on the research area; applicants whose 1st language is not English are normally expected to meet the minimum university requirements, eg 6.5 IELTS.
