Information Systems and Technology
The course aims to develop: understanding of the characteristics of information systems, their management and technology, and their effective utilisation within organisations; skills in evaluating and applying appropriate methods and technologies for representing, managing and disseminating information; skills in contributing to information system implementation using sound principles; an appreciation of the necessary legal, ethical and professional values appropriate to the provision of information services.
Good 2nd Class Honours degree from a UK university, or a recognised equivalent from an accredited overseas institution or an equivalent professional qualification; some work experience, preferably in an area related to the programme; part-time applicants should be employed in information systems or technology work; 5 years' relevant experience may be taken in lieu of a degree.
Modules include: Databases (systems); digital information technologies and architectures (technology); information and knowledge management (information); requirements engineering (systems); research, evaluation and communication skills; students also choose 3 elective modules, 1 from each stream.
Modules are assessed in a number of ways, including coursework, examinations, presentations and multiple choice questions.
Programme has been recognised by the Arts and Humanities Research Board as suitable for the award of Advanced Course Studentships in information science; limited number of scholarships available for full-time overseas students.
