Business Economics and International Business Economics

This course is designed to build upon the knowledge and skills students have acquired at undergraduate level and apply them to real-world economic and business problems; students have the opportunity to extend their previous education by focusing on business and economic policy issues.

Entry requirements

A quantitative background and a good Honours degree in a relevant discipline; or a good Honours degree in any discipline supplemented by relevant work experience; appropriate professional qualifications or experience may be taken in lieu of a degree; an equivalent qualification from an overseas university; if English is not a 1st language applicants are expected to have 1 of the following English language qualifications: a 1st degree from an overseas institution recognised by the University as providing adequate evidence of proficiency in the English language; GCE O-level/GCSE English language or English literature, grade C minimum; Cambridge ESOL CPE at grade C or above; an overall score of 6.5 in the IELTS with a minimum of 6.0 for each subtest; a score of 600 minimum (computer score 250) in the TOEFL; satisfactory standard in the verbal section of the Princeton Test (GMAT); US SAT with 500 in verbal performance; WELT with pass grades of BBC minimum; other evidence of proficiency in the English language which satisfies the board of studies concerned.

Course modules

3 core modules: business economics; quantitative methods; financial markets; 3 optional modules from: e-commerce; international business economics; corporate finance; economics and business strategy; economics of competition and regulation; econometrics; the course also includes compulsory research raining in preparation for writing a dissertation in business economics.

Assessment methods

Written coursework, a piece of group work and/or formal presentation and a final examination.
