Health Informatics

This course is for health professionals who wish to enhance their careers with an informatics qualification, and computer scientists, engineers and others with relevant technical or professional qualifications who wish to move into a successful career involving the application of informatics in the health service. You will have a keen interest in developing high-quality and sustainable healthcare through the application of informatics solutions and a desire to be part of the newest and fastest growing specialty in health care. Health Informatics at City University London is the only such MSc in the UK to be accredited by the British Computer Science Society.

Entry requirements

PgDip

Applicants should hold an upper second class honours degree, the equivalent from an international institution or an equivalent professional qualification.Prior degrees should be in a medical or numerate subject, but other degree subjects or professional qualifications can be accepted if a candidate has subsequently had relevant health service or industrial experience.

Taught Elective Modules: Choose two options from the following - Databases; Information Architecture; Project Management; Programming with Java; Practices and Theories in Interaction Design.

Assessment methods

PgDip

Students who do not complete the dissertation but have successfully completed eight modules will be awarded 120 credits and a postgraduate diploma. Successful completion of four modules (60 credits) will lead to the award of a postgraduate certificate.
Each module is assessed through a combination of coursework and examination.

MSc

Each module is assessed through a combination of coursework and examination.
Students successfully completing eight modules and the dissertation will be awarded 180 credits and a masters level qualification. Alternatively, students who do not complete the dissertation but have successfully completed eight modules will be awarded 120 credits and a postgraduate diploma. Successful completion of four modules (60 credits) will lead to the award of a postgraduate certificate.

Sponsorship information
