European Union Law

The course provides you with the knowledge, skills and insight required for the practice and application of European Union law. The City Law School is one of very few Higher Education institutions in the UK offering as broad a range of electives in European Union related legal subjects. The programme will benefit those who seek to work in professional, public and commercial sectors involving EU law rules and practices. The areas covered will touch on not only the fundamentals of EU law but also, some of the more cutting edge areas of developing EU law.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold a good first degree in law, or an equivalent qualification in a related discipline, and must be fluent in written and spoken English. We expect applicants who are not nationals of a majority English-speaking country OR have not successfully completed an academic qualification, at least equivalent to a UK bachelor's degree, which was taught in a majority English-speaking country as defined by the UK Visas and Immigration, to have an overall IELTS score of at least 7.0.Applicants with a first degree in a subject other than law will be considered, but it should be noted that this may restrict the choice of modules where content is dependent on a prior knowledge of law.

Course modules

Modules include: European integration: law, politics, institutions; human rights in the eu; eu litigation; substantive eu competition law; european business regulation i: foundations, goods, workers, citizenship; european business regulation ii: establishment, services, capital, harmonisation.

The purpose of this is to assess a range of different skills and knowledge, as well as exposing you to different approaches. The majority of modules will be assessed on the basis of written coursework of 5,000-5,500 words.
