Midwifery (Advanced Practice in Health and Social Care)

This course is designed for registered midwives, who have at least one year of experience in clinical midwifery practice, and will give you the opportunity to build upon your existing specialist knowledge and skills, widen your career opportunities and help you advance into senior, advanced and educational posts within the midwifery profession, where a Masters qualification is often desired. Entry requirements

MSc: To apply for this course, you should have: A second-class honours degree or the equivalent from an international institution. A lower qualification such as Diploma in Midwifery may be considered with appropriate prior experience. You would normally be expected to have been practicing as a registered midwife for at least one year. If you do not hold a degree, your application may still be considered on the basis of your professional experience. English Requirements: If your first language is not English, one of the following is also required: A first degree from a UK university or an overseas institution recognised by City as providing adequate evidence of proficiency in the English language. For example, from institutions in Australia, Canada or the USA. IELTS: 7.0. Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: 72. Due to changes in the UKVI's list of SELTs we are no longer able to accept TOEFL as evidence of English language for students who require a CAS as of April 2014.

Course modules

The programme is taught using a variety of learning techniques.  These vary depending upon the modules and will include: Keynote lectures Computer lab workshops Small discussion groups Virtual discussion groups On-line learning materials including films, reading, interactive quizzes and Independent guided study.

Assessment methods

A variety of assessment methods are used. The choice of assessment method will be influenced by the focus and learning outcomes of the modules.
