International Economic Law

The course offers the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills needed in the area of economic regulation - this includes world trade law, competition law, investment regulation, business regulation and energy regulation. You will see the law in action in the case studies you will be studying.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold a first degree in law, or an equivalent qualification in a related discipline, and must be fluent in written and spoken English. We expect applicants who are not nationals of a majority English-speaking country OR have not successfully completed an academic qualification, at least equivalent to a UK bachelor's degree, which was taught in a majority English-speaking country as defined by the UK Visas and Immigration, to have an overall IELTS score of at least 7.0.Applicants with a first degree in a subject other than law will be considered, but it should be noted that this may restrict the choice of modules where content is dependent on a prior knowledge of law.

Course modules

Modules include: World trade law; energy law; international tax law; eu tax law; international law and the global economy; european business regulation i: foundations, goods, workers, citizenship; european business regulation ii: establishment, services, capital, harmonisation; comparative antitrust law; international investment law.

Assessment methods

Assessment will draw on a range of approaches which include written coursework, presentations, skills work, in-class tests, projects and a dissertation. The purpose of this is to assess a range of different skills and knowledge, as well as exposing you to different approaches. The majority of modules will be assessed on the basis of written coursework of 5,000-5,500 words.
