History of Art
The course is built around special options which provide in-depth knowledge of a particular period. This specialist focus is supplemented by a core methodology course which provides an excellent grounding in art historical methods. Special options are taught in small class sizes of 5-10 students, which encourages focussed discussion between students and academics.
Good upper 2nd Class Honours degree in a humanities discipline, or equivalent. Students whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 7.0 or equivalent (with a minimum 6.5 in both Reading and Writing).
Core modules: Classical, Byzantine and medieval; Renaissance; early modern; modern; history of architecture; history of dress; history and theory of art museum.
Assessment methods include 2 4,000 word essays, a formal examination and dissertation of approximately 10,000 words.
Various Courtauld Institute Studentships of values between �1,000 and �15,000.
