Oil and Gas Management

This course aims to equip students with the skills required to support a range of management/professional careers in the global petroleum industry. It provides a comprehensive advanced level introduction to the international operation of the industry (upstream and downstream), and explores the key challenges and emerging technologies that are influencing exploration and production and the future of oil and gas. There are 4 established routes in the course, namely: technology management route; quality, health, safety and environment (QHSE) route; law and policy route (this route is not available for May start); finance and investment route.

Entry requirements

A good UK Honours degree or an international equivalent, preferably at upper 2nd Class level or above. Candidates holding the equivalent of a good 2nd Class lower degree may also apply. HND holders with at least 5 years working experience in the oil and gas industry may also be considered.

Course modules

Mandatory subjects for all routes: introduction to oil and gas industry; the future of oil and gas; HSE management in the oil and gas industry; petroleum contracts and economics; project and quality management in the energy industry; impacts of petroleum exploration, extraction and transportation; person project. Optional modules for technology management route: water and wastewater treatment; oil spill science, response and remediation. Optional modules for QHSE route: risk safety and governance; oil spill science, response and remediation. Optional modules for finance and investment route: investment analysis and decision making in the petroleum industry; international oil and gas trading. Optional modules for law and policy route: international environmental law; international oil and gas trading.
