Production Engineering and Operations Management
In an ever-demanding world market place the need to be competitive in production is essential. Businesses are reorganising themselves in response to the challenges and demands of the 21st century and must be flexible and responsive to the changing market requirements. Manufacturing companies must produce high quality, cost-effective product in quick response time to customer demand. In order to do this, successful manufacturing companies must embrace the skill and expertise of engineering, business and management. This course aims to develop production engineers who will be able to apply technology, business and management skills to respond to the demands of the industry for operational excellence.
The course has the following modules: Masters project (industry or academic based); research methods and study skills; engineering materials processes; metrology, quality and engineering analysis; global lean and agile operations; digital manufacturing; advanced manufacturing technologies; automation and robotics; optimisation and simulation; new product introduction group project.
This course will be delivered using lectures and tutorials. Collaboration with industry will be encouraged through the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME) and the new product introduction group project will give the opportunity to work on real life case studies.
