Molecular Biology

This course is intended for life science graduates from both home and overseas courses who wish to develop their knowledge and skills in biosciences with an emphasis on molecular biology. The aim of the course is to produce scientists who will be able to contribute to a range of careers including academic, commercial, industrial and healthcare applications of molecular biology. This course is also an excellent foundation for those wishing to pursue research in molecular biology at PhD level. Students will have the opportunity to study a broad range of molecular biology at a theoretical and a practical level. Students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience of molecular biology techniques. Students will have the opportunity to develop a range of transferable and research skills that will develop their knowledge and enhance their employment potential. The 18 month full-time programme includes an internship module in which students are offered the opportunity to integrate theory and practice and carry out a real project in collaboration with a host organisation.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold the equivalent of a 2.2 undergraduate degree in bioscience or biological chemistry. We would expect to see the study of 1 or more of the following modules in the final year of an undergraduate degree: molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, microbiology, genetics, molecular immunology or molecular virology. Applicants whose 1st language is not English should have an IELTS 6.5 overall, with no component lower than 5.5. Pre-Sessional English is available if required. For the 18 month route, students must meet the internship requirements, normally assessed by an interview during the 1st term of the course.
