Politics MA

This course is designed for students to obtain an advanced level understanding of key political issues and how they engage with local and national governance, comparative politics and international relations. The programme offers diversity in the range of study, from urban austerity to conflict resolution. The programme will provide students with an advanced level of understanding of the contemporary political issues such as urban austerity and local political leadership. The programme is particularly relevant for those who wish to engage in public policy and national and local government where knowledge of the linkages between local, national and international issues and institutions is essential. The programme is also of relevance for those who wish to progress towards a PhD degree.

Entry requirements

MA: An Honours degree or overseas equivalent, in any subject. Applications from those with significant professional experience in Politics and International Relations will be considered individually. If English is not your first language, an IELTS score of 6.0 (including a minimum of 5.5 in each component) or equivalent is normally required. English language tuition is available both before and during the course if required.

Course modules

Modules include: Contemporary political debates; research methods; democratising urban spaces; politics of identity and space; community leadership and governance; globalisation; diplomacy and international relations; post-cold war order; Britain and Europe; decision points in US foreign policy; regional security in European neighbourhood; global health.

Assessment methods

Assessment will usually be through a combination of individual and group work, presentations, essays, reports and exams.
