Fashion and Textiles

Practical study is offered in the areas of fashion and contour design under the direction of specialist tutors. These areas can include fashion outerwear, jersey wear, lingerie, corsetry, bra making, swimwear and loungewear. Access to a range of industry standard resources and machinery for both outerwear and intimate apparel provide the opportunity for design ideas to be realised to a professional standard. The programme concentrates on extending and deepening existing creative, technical and intellectual knowledge to develop new skills and design capabilities. It emphasises the development of critical and reflective analytical skills alongside design practice. Networking opportunities to extend learning through collaborative working practices are encouraged to discover new potential in design research and innovation. Participation in key national and international competitions is a feature of the learning experience.

Entry requirements

You should have the equivalent of a 2:2 or above UK Bachelors Honours design degree in a fashion or textiles related subject (relevant to your chosen pathway). If you have other professional qualifications and industry experience we will consider your application on an individual basis. Evidence of design work in a digital/portfolio of work is also required Students whose 1st language is not English should have an IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent. English Language tuition, delivered by the British Council accredited Centre for English Language Learning, is available both before and throughout the course.

Course modules

Consists of 3 elements: taught modules; specialist creative projects; practical major project resulting in the design and production of an innovative range/collection of clothing.

Assessment methods

Assessment is continuous and methods include 2D/3D design projects, portfolio, reports/essays, blogs, poster presentations and oral presentations. Major project: developed under supervision.
