This course has been designed for graduates of Physical Geography and Environmental Science degrees who wish to pursue a research career in industry or academia, as well as those who are already working within research. The programme encourages applications from high quality and motivated Physical Geography and Environmental Science graduates who have a keen interest in developing their knowledge, expertise and research skills. The combination of taught modules on research skills and research practice will prepare you for the development of a significant research project, providing you with an essential foundation for a career in academic and/or industrial research within your chosen field. The course also provides ideal preparation to progress your research to PhD level.
You would normally have, as a minimum, a 2.1 Honours degree in Physical Geography or Environmental Science. However, if you have a 2.2 Honours degree in Physical Geography and subsequent experience working within a research environment, you may still be considered and we encourage you to apply.Overseas applicants will be considered on an individual basis and will be expected to demonstrate IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.As part of the selection process, you will need to submit a short research proposal and attend an interview.You are strongly encouraged to contact the Department of Geography prior to submitting an application to ensure a suitable supervisor is available for your proposed specialism.
