This programme combines taught modules and independent study to offer students in sports studies the opportunity to develop specialist, in-depth knowledge within the sporting context; this might include, for example, aspects of the sociology of sport, safeguarding and child protection in sport, disability and sport, or the relationship between gender and sexuality and sport; students are immersed in research training and develop a research proposal prior to undertaking in-depth and extended research in a specific area of sports studies of choice; an innovative student-led approach means individual research interests are truly at the heart of studying for this MRes award.
A 1st or 2.1 Honours degree; in exceptional circumstances, students with a 2.2 Honours degree and demonstrable knowledge of their subject matter may be admitted at the department�s discretion; applicants whose native language is not English, or who originate from countries whose national language is not English, are required to demonstrate English language proficiency to a minimum standard of IELTS 7.0 or equivalent; each applicant are required to submit a research proposal of approximately 1,000 words detailing the focus of their studies; a formal registration interview or viva is held for each candidate.
