Physical Education and School Sport

This programme combines taught modules and independent study to offer students in physical education and school sport the opportunity to develop specialist, in-depth knowledge within the physical education and school sport context; this might include, for example, aspects of pedagogy, contemporary and socio-cultural issues, fundamental movement skills or child development; students are immersed in research training and develop a research proposal prior to undertaking in-depth and extended research in a specific area of physical education and school sport of choice.

Entry requirements

Applicants require a 1st or 2.1 Honours degree; in exceptional circumstances, students with a 2.2 and demonstrable knowledge of their subject matter may be admitted. Applicants whose native language is not English, or who originate from countries whose national language is not English, should have English language proficiency to a minimum standard of IELTS 7.0 or equivalent; each applicant is required to submit a research proposal of approximately 1,000 words detailing the focus of their studies and demonstrating their enthusiasm and commitment towards the proposed subject; a formal registration interview or viva are held for each candidate.
