Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)

This programme aims to engage students in the critical analysis of contemporary discussion and debate surrounding the teaching of languages in both foreign and second language contexts around the world. It is not an English language or teacher training course.

Entry requirements

An undergraduate degree (normally a 2.2 or above, or equivalent) in a field related to Language, English or Education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant TESOL experience. Overseas applicants must possess IELTS 6.5, with no less than 6.0 in the individual components.

Course modules

Theories of second language education; practical knowledge of TESOL; TESOL syllabus and material development; researching TESOL; educational management of TESOL; TESOL and international education; TESOL and learners with specific learning difficulties; TESOL and young learners.

Assessment methods

Portfolio-building approach, reflective accounts, projects, essays and an extended research study based on personal professional interests.
