Secondary Education (Modern Foreign Languages German with Another Language, 11-16, flexible)
This programme provides a range of academic, professional and vocational skills, values and understanding required to become a teacher of languages. Students study teaching methods whilst developing their own subject abilities. A combination of academic study, group discussion and reflection, and practical, work-based learning in the classroom provides the knowledge and skills needed to become a creative and innovative teacher. Students also receive support to study a 2nd language. Successful completion of the programme leads to recommendation for qualified teacher status (QTS).
A 2.2 Honours degree in a relevant area; GCSE English language and mathematics at grade C or equivalent; satisfactory levels of information and communications technology competence and an appropriate range of practical skills related to applicants� specialist subject; a demonstrable interest in teaching within the curriculum area, for example: time spent in schools, knowledge of the chosen curriculum area, relevant practical experience; candidates take professional skills tests in literacy and numeracy.
