Secondary Education (Computer Science and Information Technology, 11-16, flexible)
Students learn to teach all aspects of computing, including computer science, digital literacy and information technology. The programme aims to develop reflective and analytical skills as well as providing practical experience in planning effective lessons and learning strategies, hands-on classroom experience, and opportunities to further subject knowledge. Students have the opportunity to interact with specialist computer science and computing software and tools in schools in order to both increase trainees' knowledge of computer science, digital literacy and information technology, and support and enhance other aspects of teaching and learning in secondary schools. Successful completion of the programme leads to recommendation for qualified teacher status (QTS).
A 2.2 Honours degree in a relevant area; GCSE English language and mathematics at grade C or equivalent; satisfactory levels of information and communications technology competence and an appropriate range of practical skills related to applicants� specialist subject; a demonstrable interest in teaching within the curriculum area, for example: time spent in schools, knowledge of the chosen curriculum area, relevant practical experience; candidates take professional skills tests in literacy and numeracy. Applicants must meet the Department for Education's standards for physical and mental fitness to teach and clearance to work with children.
