Secondary Education (Physics with Mathematics, 11-19)
The course provides the academic, professional and vocational skills, knowledge, values and understanding to become a teacher of 2 distinct subjects, physics and mathematics. The programme includes the opportunity to observe and teach physics to 6th form students. There is a strong focus on subject knowledge, with intensive subject study sessions complemented by research informed pedagogy and 4 days per week of school based training. Successful completion of the programme leads to recommendation for qualified teacher status (QTS).
A 2.2 Honours degree in a physics, engineering, mathematical sciences or closely related subject such as energy science and technology, astronomy and space science or chemical physics. GCSE English language and mathematics at grade C or above (or equivalent qualification). Satisfactory levels of information and communications technology competence and an appropriate range of practical skills related to applicants� specialist subject. A demonstrable interest in teaching within the curriculum area, for example time spent in schools, knowledge of the chosen curriculum area, relevant practical experience. Candidates take professional skills tests in literacy and numeracy. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS, previously CRB) Enhanced Disclosure.

Assessment is based around a portfolio of academic and professional assignments and activities that are completed throughout the year.
