Secondary Education (Religious Education, 11-16)

This programme provides a range of academic, professional and vocational skills, values and understanding required to become a teacher of the subject. The programme aims to develop reflective and analytical skills as well as providing practical experience in planning effective lessons and learning strategies. Hands on classroom experience, and opportunities to further subject knowledge is an integral part of the programme and helps students to develop useful contacts for the future, through meeting and talking with faith practitioners from a variety of world religions. Successful completion of the programme leads to recommendation for qualified teacher status (QTS).

Entry requirements

A 2.2 Honours degree in a relevant area; GCSE English language and mathematics at grade C or equivalent; satisfactory levels of information and communications technology competence and an appropriate range of practical skills related to applicants� specialist subject; a demonstrable interest in teaching within the curriculum area, for example: time spent in schools, knowledge of the chosen curriculum area, relevant practical experience; candidates take professional skills tests in literacy and numeracy. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) enhanced disclosure.
