International Midwifery Studies

This programme provides a global perspective on midwifery care whilst advancing knowledge and developing new academic and evidence-based skills. The programme lays firm foundations in the key concepts of midwifery in a global context and seeks to promote positive values and attitudes that recognise and respect individual and cultural diversities and challenge discriminatory practice.

Entry requirements

Applicants must be qualified nurses, with a minimum of 1 year's professional experience and evidence of recent employment in health care settings; must have a Bachelor's degree (minimum 2.2) or an equivalent qualification from a recognised overseas Higher Education Institution; English language ability at IELTS 7.0.

Course modules

Year 1: enhancing clinical skills in the childbearing continuum; creating change within the context of international midwifery; the impact of breastfeeding on global health; supporting learning in practice through mentorship; applied principles of leadership. Year 2: research: developing a research proposal; dissertation for practice based professionals.

Assessment methods

Essays, reflective assignments, a hypothetical research proposal and a portfolio of evidence-based practice tailored to the individual specialism in midwifery, dissertation.
