Timber is, in many respects, the ideal construction material, particularly in terms of its structural attributes and environmental efficiency. There is an increasing demand to use timber as a building material, which has created the need for qualified engineers with specialised knowledge and appropriate expertise in this area. You will learn the principles of designing a timber structure, particularly considering the nature of the material itself and its properties.
Bachelor (Honours) degree at 2.2 or above, or equivalent. We look for applicants to have a background in civil or structural engineering in order to be eligible for the programme. We may also consider lesser qualifications if you have sufficient relevant work experience within the industry.
Trimester 1: Project management; analysis and timber design 1; sustainable building design. Trimester 2: Timber materials application; analysis and timber design 2; timber form and construction. Trimester 3: Dissertation.
